Our History: A Tradition of Excellence
In 1986, a small, home-based business opened its doors in West Marin. Michael and Bonnie Fontana had a clear vision for their new construction company – to provide an exceptional customer-focused team committed to professionalism, integrity, and a superior product.
30 years later, Fontana Construction has grown into one of the most respected construction companies in Marin County.
Stevan Fontana - President
A second generation of Fontana Construction Inc, Stevan Fontana became President in 2018 and been instrumental in carrying the company’s vision forward and contributing to its success and growth.
Stevan graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management and Technology from Northern Arizona University. Grounded in construction-based engineering and business management, Stevan has worked in senior level positions at Fontana Construction since 2003.
Stevan Fontana is known for his exceptional work ethic and drive for excellence that he developed as an athlete and player in the NFL. Through his commitment to excellence, strong leadership, and invaluable insight to each facet of the business, he has led Fontana Construction to consistently exceed the highest industry standards.
In his leisure time, Stevan's passions are fishing and coaching youth sports. He enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter and resides in Petaluma, California.
Lee Bonilla - Controller
Lee is a Texas native and has lived in California since the young age of 12. Outside of Lee's main role as company controller, he is also involved with making daily company decisions, bookkeeping, IT, HR and is renowned for tracking down unique and elusive products that no one else can seem to find.
His skills in office management and knowledge of construction products through his work in the hardware industry support the project management team in keeping their jobs running smoothly and on time. Working smart behind the scenes, Lee makes a difference throughout the company and for our clients.
In his free time, you will find Lee in the company of his friends creating masterpiece meals and enthusiastically earning his title of Grill Master. Lee's dedication goes deeper than just for Fontana. His belief in community and desire to give back can be seen in his past volunteer work and his years as a Rugby coach for a non-profit organization that was created to inspire and mentor inner-city youth.
Nathan Serratore - Head Estimator / Project Manager
Nathan is a Californian native who grew up in the Sierra Nevadas north of Sacramento. He has been in the Greater Bay Area for the past 23 years and currently lives in San Anselmo with his wife Rachael.
Although Nathan has spent much of his working career in the construction industry, his past experiences have spanned across an array of industries. He obtained his Class A commercial driver's license at 19 while working for Coca-Cola. At the age of 24 he started working as an independent contractor in the motion picture industry for both the camera department and transportation department. He has received a number of film credits for locally filmed motion pictures and in 2005 became a commercially licensed helicopter pilot.
Nathan has been with Fontana Construction Inc. for over 10 years. His many years of field experience have been invaluable in his transition into his many roles in project management as well as Head Estimator. Nathan has also taken on the training of new management team members and is constantly improving upon our internal processes and procedures.
Jon Ward - Project Manager
Jon graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in design before launching a career that spans decades in the industry.
After earning a second degree in architecture he practiced in California and Hawaii before moving into corporate roles building and remodeling stores at Gap, Williams-Sonoma, and Pottery Barn. Over the last decade, Jon has developed a detailed approach to construction management focusing on high-end residential and commercial projects.
Danny Heck - Project Manager
Danny discovered his passion for construction when he began working as a Team Leader for Habitat for Humanity building affordable housing. With this experience, he continued his journey, building and managing high-end custom new homes and remodels throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
While working in the construction industry for over 15 years, Danny obtained his general contractors license in 2010 and a construction management certificate from UC Berkeley in 2015. In his role as Project Manager at Fontana, he prides himself on delivering superior work and top-notch customer service to his clients.
Outside of work, Danny enjoys being outdoors and traveling with his wife, two sons, and their two dogs.
Tim Cahoon - Project Manager
Tim grew up in a construction family. Both his father and his brother were contractors. Midwest raised, he moved to Sonoma County in 1986 and worked with his brothers company for a couple of years before moving to Marin County. Eventually becoming a general contractor and running his own construction company which focused primarily on residential construction, Tim brings a total of 34 years of experience to his position as a project manager with Fontana Construction. In his spare time he enjoys his family and being a father.
Justin Lee - Project Manager
Having dedicated his entire career to his passion for all things building and construction, Justin brings 20+ years of diverse industry experience ranging from general contractor to building design to business development, and more. His robust building portfolio covers projects in various states across the US, including the Carolinas, Texas and New York, and in 2020 he and his family decided to make good on a long-term goal and settle down in his wife's hometown of Napa, CA. Justin's specialized experience for overseeing and executing high-end custom home builds with unparalleled project management expertise and precision ultimately led him to Fontana Construction, serving as point for builds and client relations in the Napa Valley and surrounding area.
Dino Franzi - Superintendent
Born and raised in Marin, Dino has a strong background of excellence in construction and forms part of the third generation in construction and the family business. He started his career with Fontana Construction more than 20 years ago, moved on as project foreman for other companies as well as becoming a licensed contractor. His wide range of experience, including occupied remodels, new additions and new construction has equipped him with valuable knowledge and skills in project coordination.
With a consistent presence at the building site, Dino addresses all issues as they arise and is dedicated to detail. He puts attention to communication and respect for the client and his team first.
Dino lives in San Rafael with his wife and two young sons.
Jason Mackey - Superintendent
Jason started working as a construction apprentice at the age of 19 while going to college. He graduated and attained his AS degree in Construction Technology from Shasta College in 2004. Jason worked full-time in construction, enhancing his hands-on experience until he moved to the Bay Area in 2006. Once in the Bay Area, he quickly moved his way up and began running jobs. He has a passion for construction and an excellent eye for detail. Jason joined the Fontana Construction team as a Superintendent in April 2018.
Marcel Garcia - Superintendent
Marcel started in construction building custom homes with his father in 1995. For the next 10 years he continued to grow as a carpenter, building high-end homes for two different contractors, including multimillion dollar homes in the Oakville, Calistoga and San Francisco areas. After working his way up to Superintendent, he obtained his General Contractors License in 2003, and ran his own small company for the next fifteen years.
Wanting to return to the world of building large high-end homes, he joined Fontana Construction in March of 2019.
In his personal time he enjoys coaching his son Andre in sports and watching his daughter Maddie follow her passion of competitive cheer. He also enjoys fishing rivers for trout and salmon.
Ron Haug - Superintendent
Ron has been in construction for nearly 30 years. He started his passion for building in high school where he achieved top of his class. He then went to the Santa Rosa JC to acquire his Journeyman Certificate.
With experience in both commercial and residential construction, Ron joined Fontana in 2010. He strives for perfection which is a great fit in this company.
Ron and his wife raised two boys in Sonoma County and have been married for 32 years. Ron enjoys the outdoors, camping, sports and family.
Thomas Leith - Superintendent
Tom began in the building industry at 18 when he joined the Local 3, working through apprentice school and eventually working as a journeyman tile setter for 10 years. Lacking a sense of challenge from a single finish trade, Tom made the move to general contracting, Joining Fontana Construction Inc. in 2009. Starting out as a carpenter, he has moved up to the role of Superintendent in his 11 years, using his finish experience to help navigate through many extensive remodels.
Tom was born and raised in Novato, Ca where he resides with his wife Joanie, and their 2 children, Stella and William. Tom enjoys golfing and being in the outdoors in his free time.
Clayton Holley - Small Projects Superintendent
A Texas native and the son of a Civil Engineer, Clayton Holley began working in the commercial and residential construction industry during his summer years from an early childhood. He relocated to California in 1981 to continue his college education in structural engineering, computer science, mathematics, and criminal justice, prior to obtaining his general builder contractor license. During his 20 years of running his own business, he also bought, developed, and flipped multiple homes. Clayton joined Fontana Construction Inc. in 2017 after subcontracting for several years. With the high standards of the company to produce only the best quality in the industry and his exceptional skills and passion to go the extra mile to provide the best customer satisfaction, it was a recipe for a long-lasting relationship.
Mary Moutinho - Small Projects Coordinator
Mary is a Bay Area native with over 20 years of experience in the Real Estate industry. She has managed investment portfolios across the west coast, and coordinated operations for many successful revenue-generating assets and flips. Mary has a strong background in management and a customer-oriented approach to her work. She brings dedication, energy, and fun to her work and team.
Damian dela Prade - Project Engineer / Safety Manager
Damian has been a resident of the Bay Area for over 30 years and grew up in West Marin. Raised in small town Nicasio, his formative years consisted of spending time in the outdoors, playing three sports and spending time with his loved ones. Today Damian’s dedication to his client's happiness, and attention to detail are what drives him. From the beginning to the end of a project, Damian will be there to help guide our clients through the maze of logistics.
Mike Fontana - Founder
Mike graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology after obtaining Associate Degrees in science and mathematics. Although he chose to pursue a career in his true passion - building - his aptitude for math and detail-oriented thinking served him well.
Prior to founding Fontana Construction, he worked as a carpenter, field foreman and estimator for a local construction company. Through his many roles, he gained hands-on skills and a broad understanding of project management on a strategic level.
His respect and care for the client continue to create an environment that delivers great work on time. That's what sets Fontana Construction apart.
Bonnie Fontana - Founder
Bonnie, a West Marin native, has been central to Fontana's growth and development. Her values-based leadership, attention to detail, and organizational management skills created the conditions for the exceptional customer service and professionalism that Fontana has become known for.
Prior to opening Fontana Construction, she was a senior partner in Just Business, a Business Service Company in Marin.
