Nestled into a quiet Pacific Heights cul-de-sac, the Norwegian Consulate has for decades served as a diplomatic residence and meeting place, however the two functions overlapped spatially in a way that compromised privacy. After exploring several remodel options with the client, the solution was a complete transformation of the main floor, placing the presentation areas facing east and adding a large glass door and balcony to expose the spectacular view.

Vertical circulation was restructured to allow access to the residential areas without passing through the gathering spaces, and the meeting space was made handicap accessible. The kitchen was moved and redesigned to accommodate both residents and caterers. Finally, all bedrooms and bathrooms were modernized, and the back yard was decked for outdoor gatherings.
